Pokkén Tournament DX – Review

Developed by Namco Bandi, the team behind the Tekken series, and published by the Pokémon Company, Pokkén Tournament was the first instance of a ‘real time’ fighting game in the Pokémon franchise – originally released in Arcades and for Wii U in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

Naturally, the game mixes everything that is popular about Pokémon with fighting mechanics lifted from Tekken. With both franchises existing as the biggest sales hits of their own genres, it’s a wonder a collaboration like this took 20 years to form. And it was in-spite of the Wii U’s sales failure that Pokkén proved itself, selling over a million copies worldwide, beating our genre veteran Street Fighter V as the most popular Fighting game of 2016.

So, it was easy to predict that with the arrival of the Nintendo Switch, Namco and Nintendo would want to recreate that success, which brings us to the inevitable port, Pokkén Tournament DX.
