Highly anticipated Kickstarter success, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, has been delayed into 2018. Originally intended to release in March 2017 for Windows, iOS, Linux, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox One and Wii U.
No specifics were given for the delay, but director, Koji Igarashi stated quality control was an issue. In a video update (embedded below) he confirmed a second development team has been hired to assist with the multiple versions being produced.
One could assume that the relative failure of other Kickstarters (Mighty No.9 *cough*) could cause concerns for other developers looking to create similar games.
However, with the release date now so far in the future, it would be surprising if Bloodstained still made it to Wii U, which is set to be succeeded by new hardware, code name: NX, early next year.
“The last thing I want to do is keep our backers waiting, but after receiving such incredible support, I feel responsible for delivering the best product I possibly can. Again, I offer my sincerest apologies.” – Koji Igarashi
As a backer of Bloodstained, I’ll be keeping a close eye on things for the duration of development, so you can be certain to hear more about it from us in future.
